Bridal goes plus size on TLC

TLC has announced a new six-episode series in its “Say Yes to the Dress” family. Like the original, “Say Yes to the Dress: Big Bliss” will take place inside Kleinfeld Bridal. Except in “Big Bliss,” all the brides are plus size.
It won’t be the first time plus size brides are featured. Many episodes of the original show, which recently wrapped up its fifth season, have profiled curvy women as they search for their dream wedding dress. Wach a clip of one of the ladies, a bride named Sasha.
It will be interesting to see how the new show works. Will the larger brides be served by the same consultants we’ve met on “Say Yes to the Dress”? (The show just wouldn’t be the same without fashion director Randy Fenoli) Will there be a special part of the store devoted to the plus size gowns?
Here’s how TLC describes “Big Bliss” in its press release:
From a plus-size bride who wants to look “trashy” on her wedding day, to one who gets her dream proposal as she says yes to her dress, SAY YES TO THE DRESS: BIG BLISS features brides who have struggled with weight issues their entire lives. But these sassy, confident and curvaceous brides-to-be will stop at nothing in order to find the perfect dress that will fit their personality and body type on their big day.
The show premieres Friday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
In honor of the new show, I thought I’d spotlight some pretty plus size wedding gowns. Unlike the dresses at Kleinfeld, all of these dresses cost less than $1,000 so they can be bought even if you’re on a budget.
