Size 6 too big?

I know I’m not the only one who loved the adventures of Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, the lovely protagonists in “Sweet Valley High” (and “Sweet Valley Twins,” my first introduction to the book series).
Random House has decided to renew the series, and the first book, “Sweet Valley High #1: Double Love,” will be released April 8. I think it’s great they’re bringing the old gang back.
But take a look at this line from the Random House press release, detailing the differences between the 1980′s version and the new books:
1983: The Wakefield twins wore “a perfect size 6.” 2008: The twins are now “a perfect size 4.”

What a horrible thing to say to teenage girls, many of whom struggle with their weight. First off, the idea that you have to be a particular size to be “perfect” is a little insulting. And then to say that a six is too big to be perfect… thank goodness I’m not a teenager anymore.
Adrienne Day at Entertainment Weekly had a great take on the issue:
Kudos, Random House, for not only introducing body-image issues to a whole new generations of young fans, but proudly trumpeting this point in the press release.
